The GBPD Traffic Unit works to ensure that Commercial Vehicle drivers are adhering to local and state guidelines for safe and legal operation, and that the vehicles themselves are maintained and in safe operating condition. Our officers attend training with, and work side by side with the WI State Patrol in this effort.

Our agency receives many complaints about commercial vehicles operating in areas where trucks are prohibited by city ordinance. Some of these complaints are found to be valid. However, before you call in a complaint on a truck operating in these areas, please understand that the driver of a heavy truck (over 5 tons) may legally drive in these areas to provide a service or deliver goods to an address in these areas. The driver must however take the shortest, most practicable, route to the service or delivery location, from the nearest truck route.
