Chief Andrew Smith was sworn in as the Chief of the Green Bay Police Department on February 1, 2016. Prior to coming to Green Bay he served for 27 years with the Los Angeles Police Department. Hired in 1988 by the LAPD he worked patrol and specialized unit assignments throughout the Department, including South Central Los Angeles. He held command level assignments in Media Relations and Community Affairs groups, Operations, and Criminal Gang Homicide Division. He was assigned to a variety of command level (Captain) positions including Harbor Area, Central Division and Communications Division.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from UC San Diego and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Southern California at Los Angeles. He also attended the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, and the Senior Management Institute for Police in Boston, Massachusetts. He and his wife and two children live on the east side of the City of Green Bay.
